Hi everyone, just found this board yesterday. My older daughter has a Today girl doll and Marisol. My youngest has the bitty twins blonde. Yesterday I went Y/S and purchased 4 other dolls 1.Today doll 2.Molly 3. Addy 4.Josefina about 10 outfits and a yellow metal bunk beds with pads and pillow. I spent 175.00 for it all. My question is how do you know if they are pre mattel?

Thank you and looking forward to "meeting you all"

welcome!

The new dolls are pre mattel. All the old dolls are by Pleasant Company. (pleasant company does not own American Girl anymore.) And when you look at the back of the neck of a doll by pleasant company, it will say "Pleasant Company" on it. Not sure about pre mattel though.

Did you mean the new dolls are not pre-Mattel?

Ketzel -You got a really good deal. Check and see if the eyelashes on the dolls from the yard sale are softer then marisols. Also do a comparison of the size of the logo on the neck and go to AG Dads website to see when teh Bunks were made - I think they are Pre Mattel, but am not one hundred percent sure.

My Today girl doll has a tag on her waist that says 1986. The clothes are dated 86-96. I'll check the eyes.

thanks

If you today doll says 1986 on it, then it's most likely by Pleasant Company.

Actually, You can't be sure about it being pre-mattel if on the neck it says Pleasant Company -Mattel only Started Switching to the American Girl Logo on the neck. Marisol is Mattel

All dolls made after 1998 are Mattel. This means that all the Limited Edition dolls--Lindsey, Kailey, and Marisol, as well as Kit and Kaya, are all Mattel.
All dolls made before 1998 are Pre-Mattel, or Pleasant Company--this includes historical and Today dolls.
However, until very recently, ALL dolls, including the Mattel dolls, have cPleasant Company on the backs of their necks.
(I've heard of some of the newest dolls being marked American Girl instead.)
The differences are fairly relative--but you have Marisol as an established Mattel doll to compare to, so that makes it easier.
Pre-Mattel dolls will have softer eyelashes, fuller faces, peachier complexions, heavier vinyl, stockier bodies, and thicker, less slick hair. Some may have body tags stating 1986, but this is the year the Co. was founded, not necessarily the year the doll was made. If a doll has a white or cream-colored body, it's one of the earlier dolls, and more valuable.
Hope this helps, and welcome to the board!!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Here's the kicker - ALL of the dolls seem to say "Pleasant Company" on the back. Olivia, Marisol, my Molly (who came from AG in January), Nellie...every doll I have says "PC" on the head, from my newest AGT (Olivia, who arrived about two weeks ago), to my WB Kirsten, who's West German and pushing 20 years old.
